Poteet is a West Wight Potter 15, hull #1156, built by HMS in 11/81. Specs list her sail area as 87 sq. feet with main & jib.

Anticipating lengthy cruising, single-handed, in variable conditions, I’m proposing to modify her rig to a 115 sq. foot junk rig. The sail will be ‘cambered’ and will have a ‘gurney panel’ on the leech, both to improve upwind sailing. This will increase sail area, from 87 to 115 sq. ft. Our northwest coast weather is notorious for summer light winds, and spring and fall heavy afternoon winds. A larger sail area, and the safe ‘instant reefing’ ability of the junk rig, are definite advantages in these conditions.
